Everything you need to know about reading, verifying, and requesting IGL laboratory reports.
An IGL laboratory report is an official document issued by the International Gemological Research Laboratory. It presents independent scientific findings regarding a gemstone’s species, variety, physical measurements, color, clarity, and treatment status.
You can verify any authentic IGL report by navigating to AmericanGemology.com/verify and entering the report serial number, or by scanning the QR code printed on the physical certificate using any smartphone camera.
The report number is printed clearly in the upper right header section of physical certificates and on the front of compact identification cards (e.g. IGL-884920).
If a report number returns a "Not Found" status, double-check for typos. If the number is typed correctly and still yields no record, please contact our laboratory office immediately, as the document may be unverified or forged.
Yes. If a physical document has been tampered with, altered, or if a specimen has been re-examined and re-issued under a new record, the original report number is marked as REVOKED in our live database.
You can request testing services by submitting your gemstone or jewellery item at an authorized IGL intake location or by contacting our team through our online inquiry form.
Standard laboratory turnaround depends on the service requested and specimen complexity. Specific intake timelines are confirmed upon specimen registration at the laboratory.
